The Army Fitness Test

The AFT consists of five events designed to assess muscular strength, endurance, anaerobic power, and aerobic endurance.

3 Rep Max Deadlift
Assess muscular strength through maximum weight lifting for 3 repetitions. Tests your ability to generate force against heavy resistance.
Hand Release Push-Up
Assess muscular endurance through push-ups in 2 minutes. Tests upper body strength endurance and proper form.
Sprint-Drag-Carry
Assess muscular endurance, strength, and anaerobic power through 5x50m shuttles with various movement patterns.
Plank
Assess core muscular endurance by holding the plank position as long as possible. Tests core stability and strength.
2-Mile Run
Assess aerobic endurance through a timed 2-mile run on a measured, flat course. Tests cardiovascular fitness.

How to Use the AFT Calculator

AFT Insight provides score analysis based on your AFT event data, simply enter your results for each event: deadlift weight, push-up reps, sprint-drag-carry time, plank time, and run time. AFT Insight will then analyze your scoring, bucket you into an archetype, and suggest fitness programs to help you improve your score.

More than a calculator, AFT Insight analyzes your performance profile to determine your fitness archetype. This classification helps identify whether you're strength-dominant (Gorilla), endurance-dominant (Wolf), need foundational trianing (Koala), need to improve work capacity (Moose), or you're a hybrid-athlete (Wolverine). Each archetype has a training program that helps address weaknesses that could limit your overall AFT performance.

The radar chart, also referred to as spidar chart, provides an easy interpretable view of your performance across all five events, making it easy to identify strengths and improvement areas. Use this tool to track progress and adjust your training program accordingly.
